Des Moines Fence Pros

About

Plain answers first, then the right local contractor

Des Moines Fence Pros exists because a fence quote is hard to judge without three things most sales pages leave out: what fencing actually costs in central Iowa, what the City of Des Moines will and won't let you build, and how to check that the company in your yard is registered and insured. This site puts those facts up front — then connects you with an independent local fence contractor.

What we are

A referral service, not a fence company. We don't install, repair or build fences and we don't employ crews; we connect you with independent, third-party Des Moines-area fence contractors, and they do the work under their own name, registration, insurance and pricing. Before you hire anyone we send you — or anyone else — ask for proof of liability insurance and look up the company's Iowa contractor registration. The full disclosure is in the footer of every page, and how matching works explains the service step by step, including how we are paid.

How the information on this site is sourced

  • Rules come from the issuing agency, read as the raw document Every permit, height, registration and neighbor-law statement on this site was read from the agency's own page, handout or the statute text itself — not from a blog, a directory, or an AI summary. Each page lists what it read and the date.
  • Prices come from one dated list Every dollar figure on every page is drawn from a single source file, so the numbers never disagree from page to page. Each figure names its source and the date it was read (2026-10-26); the whole list is due for a recheck by 2027-04-26.
  • Companies are described from their own websites only The company list names eight Des Moines-area fence businesses in alphabetical order, described only from what each says on its own site. No ratings, no review counts, no paid placement — and we say we haven't verified their claims.
  • Open questions stay open Where a question can't be closed from a primary source, the page says so and points you to the office that can answer, rather than guessing.

What was read, and what wasn't

For the rules pages we read, in full, on October 26, 2026: the City of Des Moines Residential Fence FAQ; the City of West Des Moines fence code handout (§§ 9-14-11, 9-14-12 and 9-14-5(C), revised August 4, 2026); the City of Ankeny residential fence handout (October 2026); the Polk County Fence & Retaining Wall Permit application; Des Moines Ordinance No. 14,154 of 2002; the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing contractor registration page and its public search; and the Iowa Code — chapter 359A (fences), §§ 91C.1–91C.2 (contractor registration) and § 808B.2 (call recording) — from the Legislature's official 2026 text.

We have not read the fence codes of Urbandale, Johnston, Clive, Waukee, Altoona, Pleasant Hill, Grimes or Norwalk, the City of Des Moines' current zoning-code section on fences (the FAQ is cited as the City's current statement of the rules), the City's historic-district fence guidelines, or the building-code frost-depth rule that governs post depth. No page on this site states a rule for any of those; the service-area page says which office to call instead.

The sources, in one place

Primary (agencies and statutes):

National cost guides (prices are labelled national on every page, because no Des Moines fence company publishes a price list):

What this site is not

Not a fence company, not a contractor, not a surveyor, not a law firm, and not an insurer. Our guides are general information to help you judge a quote and ask the right questions; the contractor that measures your yard prices it, the city or county that issues the permit has the last word on the rules, and an Iowa attorney answers the legal ones — especially anything under the partition-fence law, where the biggest question for a city lot is one the statute's text doesn't answer.

Contact and legal

No local street address is listed because Des Moines Fence Pros is a referral service with no yard, showroom or crew; the operating company is named in the privacy policy and terms. Contact details, and what to have ready when the request form opens, are on the contact page; the privacy policy and terms of service describe how a request is handled.
